Architecture Week 2006
Next month is the tenth anniversary of Architecture Week and this year the fifth anniversary of the Architecture Centre Network. Architecture and built environment centres play a vital role in the UK-wide delivery of Architecture Week, which is an Arts Council England and Royal Institute of British Architects initiative in association with the Architecture Centre Network.
This year, 7 of the 12 regional programmes are co-ordinated by members of the Architecture Centre Network. As well as co-ordinating regional programmes of stimulating public facing events, many centres are also drawing on their expertise and contacts to create their own events.
Architecture Week highlights from across the Network include artists dangling from the side of Birmingham’s landmark Fort Dunlop building as Architecture Week West Midlands kicks off with an Urban Splash and MADE event, the official launch of the new building for arc, and the only UK showing of a major retrospective on the work of Marcel Breuer at The Lighthouse.
In addition, the ACN has organised a series of events across the UK examining various processes of participatory school design. Delivered by nine member architecture centres, the series is funded by Partnership for Schools and Arts Council England and supported by CABE and School Works. For details, contact ACN Education Officer Catherine Wiliamson [email].
