Architexture 5: August 2005
Welcome to Architexture, a monthly newsletter from the Architecture
Centre Network (ACN) - the independent body representing architecture
and built environment centres in the UK.
ACN News
Chicago Architecture Foundation
This month saw the visit of Lynn Osmond, CEO and President of the Chicago
Architecture Foundation (CAF), to the ACN in London. The visit was an
opportunity to discuss shared practice across two continents whose economic
and political contexts are markedly different, as well as explore the
potential for future collaboration. Ms Osmond was also able to visit a
number of member Centres in the capital.
The CAF is one of the USA's major centres for the designed environment
and each year delivers over 8000 tours of Chicago's remarkable architecture
as well as a pioneering education programme for children and adult learners.
Director Development
October will see the first in a series of strategic development meetings
aimed at Directors and Board members of member architecture centres. It
supports and acknowledges the complementary work the ACN is doing at staff
level with education CPD, induction days for new members as well as training
days for the ACN staff team.
Stakeholder dialogue
The ACN is continuing its dialogue with a number of key stakeholders.
This includes ongoing representation on the Joint Advisory Committee on
Built Environment Education (JACBEE), recent progress meetings with Arts
Council England as well as regular communication with CABE and others.
Skills Research
ACN Education Officer Catherine Williamson is also currently working with
members to develop a comprehensive database of their skills and interests;
it is hoped that this research will assist future collaboration between
centres on new and existing education projects.
